I got a BS in Microbiology from Auburn U. in 1996.  I married Patrick Karr in 2001.  Finished up my PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology in 2004 from UW in Seattle, and then had a brief stint as a post-doc at the Salk Institute in San Diego.

After the birth of my first son in 2006, I decided to leave academic research for a while to be a full-time mom.  I currently live in Portland, Oregon.
