Getting Around
I spent the day today in a seminar for PR professionals. It was interesting, and I learned a few tips about press production that will come in handy, both at UF and in freelance. I lost my chance to network, as I left my business cards at home.

Tomorrow morning I'll get up early to drive Kristin's sister to the Orlando airport. Originally we were going to spend the day as a family at WDW, but Parker has a fever so I will be going solo. I'm going to take the opportunity to take photos around the park, and try to catch the fireworks at night with the much-needed tripod. We'll see if I can stay up for the marathon session.

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E
Like every good Floridian capitalist, I have paid into the tourism juggernaut that is Disney with seasonal passes, allowing myself to be bombarded with merchandise and overprices food in the name of quality family entertainment ;) Sadly, after just one day, my son has been brainwashed by the subliminal messages of the Disney marketing system, and repeated Mickey like a mantra every time he saw his likeness. And at WDW, there is definitely a Stalin-like cult of personality going on - one cannot take two steps without seeing Mickey's head everywhere.

The plus side is that I finally found me child's maximum level of fun for one day: three hours on the interstate, an international airport, a flock of sandhill cranes, two buses, one train, one tram, one monorail, two teacups, one Mickey, and one twenty minute wait for a Dumbo ride. After that, he is out like a light - not even fireworks can wake him up! So I guess any time I need to make him fall asleep, I just have get in the car, and 11 1/2 hours later, voila!

Choice in formats? I Say Thee Nay!
HP is produced the PC version of the IPod, but apparently won't support any file format other than Apple's .aac audio format. The HP President says that <"Most customers don't care about the format they're downloading."

Huh? How about the people who have signed up for music subscription services other than the iTunes store, which all use WMA? Do you think they will not care that they can't play the music they purchased on an iPod? Pretty narrow thinking.

It's not My Fault - I Have a Condition!
Man says he’s addicted to cable; wants to sue.
I will pay keen attention to this case in case it gives me a legal precedent :)

Beginning of the Year 2004
A new year and fresh back to work. The freelance works keeps exponentially growing and is leaving me very busy. Kristin and I have begun the yard projects, though the yin-yang weather of North Florida (35 one day, 80 the next) makes outdoor work difficult. This Sunday, I tried by hand at a self-propelled rototiller, a beast of a machine that is barely controllable and difficult to turn. Between it and the shovelling my arms and back feel like a big bruise.

Hello Mickey! Nice to meet you!
Parker went to Disney for the first time yesterday!! He had a blast. Here are some pictures of the trip.

In awe of the Disney magic

Made all the more special by Aunt Shelli's presence

On the train ride at Tomorrowland

Getting Daddy dizzy on the Tea Cups

He needs a license!!

Parker was scared of Mickey, which was surprising since he kept saying he wanted to meet him. Maybe next time. The day was so filled with fun and activity that Parker refused to take a nap. But exhaustion eventually won over -- during the fireworks!!

Sleeping to the melodic sound of firework explosions
