Saturday, July 20, 2002 Gator Trails Just outside of Newberry, I noticed one of the Gator trail Gators. In the footsteps of real tourist attractions like Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C., the city of Gainesville decided to do Gator artwork around town to promote tourism and local artists. Unlike other cities projects, our gators are anthropomorphic and so every artists decided to paint them with or dress them clothes like charicatures of people. How original. And unlike other cities, where the artwork was placed in front or near tourist attractions and landmarks, our gators are located in front of the businesses that contracted the artists. Therefore, we get one gator tucked in front of a graphic arts studio in Newberry not on the beaten path, and one all the way out in High Springs. In my opinion, this seems to be a little off any Gator Trail. ------------------------------------------------
