The Birthday Party
Parker had his first birthday party this weekend, and I believe it has been the most fun he has had in a long time. He was rarely very fussy, loved his presents, unwrapping them, and especially playing with the balloons. One particularly pesky pink one kept sticking to his head - it would also come to my hand, as if it were some discarded David Copperfield prop.

Parker's cake was a delicious carrot cake made doubly sweet by being made with baby carrots. Alas, we didn't have a food processor, so the carrots had to be shredded by hand - not a torture I would recommend on anyone. Just as you get into the groove, the carrot ends, and it takes some dexterity to get as much off the nub and not grate yourself in the process. Still, 86 baby carrots do spell one heaven of a dessert (yes, we did count them).
