Citizen Jeff
Today Kristin and I did our civic duty and went to vote for our Newberry City Commissioners. I have to admit I had not taken time to read up on the candidates, but as one did come to our door on Sunday, I did know who was for and who was against the proposed asphalt plant that our city officials okayed in the summer. So I knew who WE were going to vote for. Both our candidates won - turnout for the election was 25%, which is still disappointing, despite the fact its a three-fold increase from normal voter turnout.
Speaking of politics, local radio hosts are complaining of citizens' apathy in not watching the President's speech on Monday. I would argue that the average individual didn't know he was giving a speech. Only Fox covered the speech, and unless you were channel surfing or preparing to watch Major League Baseball, it's very possible you continued watching whatever was on and was completely unaware that Bush was talking. If one should be angry at someone about this, it should be the networks, not the public.
