Sunday, October 27, 2002 FUNday We took Parker to the doctor’s today, as his sniffles have not improved, and he developed a bit of a temperature. After waiting an hour after our appointment time, during which time we decided again to find a new pediatrician, the nurse confirmed Kristin’s fears – Parker has a dual ear infection. We were given a scrip for antibiotics – which must be delivered by the teaspoon, a Herculean feat given that Parker fights to the death when you try to make him drink amounts about a tenth of this gargantuan flood of medicine we have been instructed to force down his throat. This was just the beginning of our Saturday, which I now officially declare FUNday. What makes it so fun, you may ask? Well, first we took Parker to watch some ducks at the pond frolic. Little did we know that on today’s menu of frolicking was a healthy dose of duel to the death territorial Mortal Kombat by our local mallards. After spending a few minutes trying to stop the fights and determining it wasn’t mating, we found we weren’t making much progress (First rule of Duckfightclub: Don’t talk about Duckfightclub) we headed for the local drug store. The plan was simple: I was to be dropped off, get the prescription, and Kristin would get gas. Except, the store was closed, and I had to trudge over to the gas station as Kristin didn’t see flapping my arms. Minor setback. We went to the next drug store, then on to the grocery store and the craft store, where we racked up on 75% off Halloween and fall decorations. Then, major setback: the car decided to not start. We tried numerous times to start it to no avail, then attempted to call friends for help, to no avail. Parker was tired and cranky, we hadn’t eaten, and it was HOT (yes, I know it’s October. But this is FLORIDA. We have two cold days, sometime around Christmas.) Thankfully, Zeus came down ala Altered Beasts and proclaimed “Rise from the Dead!” And our lycanthropic LHS lumbered back to life on our final attempt to resuscitate. I quickly spirited Parker and Kristin back to the house and returned, without turning off the car, to the local repair shop of choice. They assured me that it would be 1-1.5 hours till they were able to look at it. After three hours of walking the aisles of K-Mart, Media Play and TJ Maxx, they finally sent someone out to look at it. It took him five minutes to figure out that it wouldn’t start…and that they couldn’t look at it till tomorrow. And THAT would cost 69 dollars. Thankfully, our friend Jacquie came to my rescue and brought me back home, so I did not have to sit quietly and calmly in the car, clapping my hands and stating I believe in Fairies, so that the car would start. But tomorrow I will have to think of a way to get back to get it. What Fun!! ------------------------------------------------
