Tuesday, October 29, 2002 Some Terrific Radiant Humble Pig Our upcoming election has a lot of hotbed issues. Most importantly, in my opinion, is: Constitutional Amendment No. 10: Animal Cruelty Amendment: Limiting Cruel and Inhumane Confinement of Pigs During Pregnancy The amendment would prohibit any person from confining "a pig during pregnancy in a cage, crate or other enclosure, or tether a pregnant pig". Does this mean preganant piga are allowed to roam wild? In addition, this "section shall take effect six years after approval by the electors". So they are concerned about cruelty to pigs, but it's okay to let it keep happening for six years? I wonder how many other livestock protection measures are in the State Constitution. ------------------------------------------------
