Friday, December 13, 2002 A Day Without a Dawn Dawn has now left SFA – it feels strange, as now I have lost 1/2 of my conversation conduit at work. It also has made my walking pattern at work off-kilter; if I leave my office, I tend to walk by Micheal’s office and, if he is busy, I walk on to Dawn’s office. Now, I find myself standing in front of an empty office and having to then backtrack or keep walking like I have a purpose or destination. Then I just make a long circuit back to my office. Last night we had our office Holiday party. It felt strangely muted and just not as joyous as last year’s. I performed in the choir again and felt wholly dissatisfied. We had not practiced with the band, but had been told there would be no sudden tempo changes or added instrumentals. Surprise! We found ourselves lost, singing extra bridges and versus quite a bit, and were never given cues when to start. Also, Lucien was now gone, and the loss of his piano was keenly felt. Furthermore, we had no microphones and so had to attempt to sing louder than the band, which did have sound support. I felt like we washed out and superfluous – of course, this could stem from the fact that these once-a-year performances are my public chance to atone for not trying out for the Music Man, save for karaoke. Nevertheless, I persevered and got through the performance, which was mercifully cut short due to time constraints. After leaving, the LHS decided to have its no start problem again. After walking through the rain 12 blocks to get the Honda, I came back and started it right away. The LHS went to the dealer this morning, which did ascertain the problem and repaired it for half the cost of PepBoys. Also, they performed some recall replacements, so going there was a good thing. ------------------------------------------------
