Monday, January 13, 2003 Calling Starfighter Geosword This is an official addition to my most sought after items to coninue by childhood as an adult, right up there with the prototype original Transformers Unicron that allowed you to talk like Orson Wellesand the dual powerhouse of G.I. Joe figures, Refrigerator Perry and Sergeant Slaughter In the nineties, my favorite video game of all time was introduced, Operation Starbalde. It was a starfighter shoot-em up with about the most grandiose visual effects I'd ever seen in this type of game. Apparently it was overshadowed by the martial arts, Mortal-Kombat games of the time and was a dissapointment to game vendors. This might be one of the reasons Namco abandoned the project for a sequel , Starblade 2 :Operation Blue Planet. Unlike the first game, this console is a totally enclosed simulator, and the graphics and light-years beyond the first. Somewhere, there is a 40% completed prototype of this game; I wonder if I can scrounge up some gas money... ![]() This is the console design ![]() These are screenshots from the original Starblade ![]() These are from Starblade 2. Impressive, no? Images from System16.com ------------------------------------------------
