Tuesday, January 14, 2003 Georgia...an Old, Sad Song As if our legal system isn't as backed-up and overfilled with cases as it could be, it seems Georgia State representative Bobby Franklin thinks they can squeeze afew more hundred cases a year nto Georgia's legal docket. His bill would require pregnant women seeking abortions to go through a trial and have a judge sign a death warrant for an "execution.". The unborn fetus would be assigned a legal gaurdian by the court to defend the fetus' life. At least anti-abortion advocates in Georgia and working to distance themselves from this bill. I know that this Representative doesn't expect the bill to pass, that it was written and submitted to the Legislature to make a point, but there is always the possibility it will pass, and that's a rather troubling thought. ------------------------------------------------
