Lady Tiger, Hear Her Roar
At home I have been railing about reality tv. It's really starting to turn me off, and I hope that I am just ahead of the curve and soon the trend will the die. Despite my growing disgust, I'll probably finish watching the Bachelorette and Joe Millionaire, and most likely American Idol, but I will turn any other ones I see right off.
And speaking of American Idol, I found that the most intriguing part of the entire first three hours was when the show introduced us to Lady Tiger, a semi-pro boxer in Detroit with dreams of becoming a pop star. Her husband was murdered several years before and now she is struggling to raise her child in Detroit. You could tell the cameraman suddenly knew he was filming something a little more important than the kids with dreams of stardom - here was a woman who had had a hard life, who wanted out of Detroit and to create a better life for her son, and whose dreams all hinged on this one moment. That element of desperation, and her strength in what seemed was a hopeless situation, made her far more compelling than the whiny, warbly kids. I hope she parlays this appearance into something - probably not singing, but she had a camera presence that would make her a shoe-in for a tv character actor, or possibly a pro wrestler (her boxing experience wouldn't hurt in that regard either). You go, Lady Tiger!
