Thursday, January 09, 2003 One Shackle Broken We finally said goodbye today to one of our cruel yokes, that of the Chase-Providian-then Chase again VISA card. Oh how that card kept me swimming in Pizza, Guthries, and comics during college, and I have been paying for it ever since. No longer! It has been paid off, and the bulk of it that wasn't was transferred to a friendlier bank with a friendlier APR. So now we are down to one card, with an easy system of paying online that stands in stark contrast to Chase' byzantine and bloated web structure. It kind of rankles me that the Chase rep didn't even try to keep us as a customer. I said I wanted to cancel, and she said "Okay". And that was it. No protestations, no attempts to con us with a sweeter APR or blance transfer option. I guess the corproate giant doesn't really need to beg. Not when the average 30-year old in America is already 30,000 in debt. ------------------------------------------------
