Surfing in the Big Pipeline
We now have a DSL connection for the computer - we decided that with the increase in freelance work a faster, dedicated internet connection was now needed (and more importantly, affordable). It's a blast to be able to stream internet radio and do a number of different tasks online without freezing. One thing I've noticed, however, is that the number of popups we get has substantially increased, both in number and complexity (one Army ad with a flying helicopter is particularly annoying). I don't remember this level of ad-pitching before - I'm going to experiment to see if we can decrease the number of ads by stripping one computer of all of its cookies and raising its security level and see if it stays more ad-free than the other computer.
Another weird thing is that the other computer's monitor that flickers on and off if left on for a period of time. I imagine its some sort of conflict between the power-saver function and the DSL, but I am not sure how to correct it.
Parker has taken immediately to his new train set and cannot get enough of it. Yesterday I was lucky enough to be right at the railroad crossing when a large freight train pulled through - Parker and I stood at the crossing and watched it thunder past, the sidewalk reverberating under our feet. He was captivated.
