Teen girl charged with making false aduction report

The report about the abduction of a child in Gainesville Tuesday morning was faked, police said, and the teenager who made the claim now is facing a criminal charge.
Gainesville police said a 16-year-old has been charged with a misdemeanor for filing a false report involving the reported abduction of a 9-year-old girl from northwest Gainesville. She was arrested on the charge at about 2:30 p.m. and taken to the juvenile detention center, said Cpl. Art Adkins.
Based on the teenager's claims, investigators were searching for a missing girl and had issued an Amber Alert. The teenager told police she saw the girl being pulled screaming into a car in the 500 block of NW 28th Avenue at about 9:45 a.m., police said.
Adkins said police do not know why the teenager made the false report.
