OB Visit
Well, yesterday we got to the doctor/midwife office and had to wait FOREVER. We took a 9 am appointment, because it was supposedly the first appointment of the day for the OB our midwife works with. Well, I don't know what happened, because we were there 10 minutes before the appointment, and didn't get even vitals taken until 9:30!! THEN, we were taken to the US room and waited another 15 minutes!! By this point, Parker's patience was completely shot.
Our midwife came in briefly to let us know that she wouldn't be able to stay for the US, but that everything else looked great, and to assure me that my BP was normal and my total weight gain was "perfect" for their plan to reduce this baby's size by me not gaining much weight (regardless of the fact that it isn't proven scientifically to have any great effect). I've had a net gain of 2 pounds from the first time they saw me.
So FINALLY, the OB comes in (have I mentioned that everyone I tell that this particular OB is the one who works with the midwife is completely shocked?? And that I have yet to hear anything super-positive about this OB??), and asks if I have any questions about the VBAC. I told him I don't at this time, but I'll definitely ask if I have any in the future. I should have asked him what questions I should have for him, though. Oh well.
Then the US starts, and almost immediately, I thought I saw a "turtle" (you know, the scrotum and penis that indicates a boy?), but the OB said, "I didn't see anything like that." Turns out, it was the eye sockets and facial bones. So, we measure the head, see the corpus callosum, the eyes (kinda), the spinal cord, the four-chambered heart, the cord insertion, the high anterior placenta (Whoo-hoo!! This is a great thing, so I don't have to worry about placenta previa OR the dreaded accretia), the femurs, the overall abdomen, a hand, and at least one foot.
That's it.
So, we kept looking and looking, and that darn foot wouldn't move!! The baby even moved from transverse to breech (lovely .... I know it really doesn't matter at this stage, but in comparison, Parker was ALWAYS head down), with no shift of that darn foot. Measurements suggest 64%ile for weight, but this is because of the abdomen measurement (78%) because both the head circumference and femur length were below 40%. Still there is almost 2 weeks of error on the sizes, so I'm not worried. The OB did ask what Parker's birth weight was, but this baby is definitely smaller than Parker was at this same time.
We ended up spending the day playing at a friend's house (Parker NEEDED that, for sure ... both boys didn't nap, and X. conked out by 8, and Parker by 9), and Jeff and her hubby joined us for dinner too. I am actually having a hard time not knowing!! There is already so much unknown, that I wanted to know this for sure. I liked knowing Parker's name and planning for him. I wanted to prepare Parker for this one, with "baby sister" or "baby brother" and a name, too. The OB said that we'd have another chance at the later US, but as of right now, I am not planning on consenting for it, so I guess not.
