Tuesday, September 28, 2004 To Co-Op or not to Co-Op We've been talking in our playgroup about creating or joining some sort of co-op preschool. Salina and Jenn are both in the MOMS Club locally, and a mom there is trying to set one up. She has provided information about one in Orlando that she was thinking about basing it off of. The biggest problem I saw with it is that it essentially had no activity for greater than 20 minutes, incluing playground time!! That's insanity. We had talked in the past of doing it just our playgroup. I think in a way that would work, but when one or two of us don't show, it isn't much of a playgroup now that it is only 4 moms, 4 toddler boys and 1 newborn, with another on the way. It would be great to have one or two more moms with toddlers right around 3 years of age to join in. I think that would be a perfect size. Of course, I know what I want out of a play-school/pre-school, and that is an ability to socialize and interact without the crazy structure and lecturing of current preschools. I also want to be involved and feel that it is a primary job of a parent, and shouldn't be relegated to a stranger unless circumstances make it unavoidable. I also do not plan to arbitrarily meet the requirements that would be placed on us if we were to try and place him in one of the many academically-set preschools, i.e. the varicella vaccine. ------------------------------------------------
