Saturday, November 20, 2004 I've got a doula!! I am so excited, I feel like I'm FINALLY starting to prepare for this birth!! Regardless of the issues I'm having with my midwife (and her overseeing OB), I have been having a hard time really settling in to this pregnancy and realizing that the end isn't that far off!! Sprout is moving around constantly, and I'm able to figure out his/her position pretty well I think. But I hadn't done the other things I was going to do in preparation, like finding and going to a chiropractor, finding a doula, journalling about my hopes, fears, my ideals, and my back-up plans. So, I finally e-mailed one of the La Leche League leaders here locally that I casually know, who is a doula, and when I didn't hear back from her, I figured like so many OBs locally, she didn't want to be involved with a VBAC. Well, we went to the LLL meeting this past Thursday, and I mulled around afterwards waiting for her to finish other conversations so I could ask her if she'd gotten my email, when I finally said to myself, "forget it", and was getting us ready to go to the car. Well, she came over AS I WAS LEAVING (I shoulda started out the door sooner), and said she'd love to be my doula, AND, since she needed births to regain her certification (she's finishing up grad school right now), she'd be happy to do it for free!! We're going to meet in December and talk about it all. Part of me thinks I should not ask any questions and just be thankful, especially since she's being so generous, but I'm still afraid that we won't mesh somehow (though we seem to so far). Still, I'm excited that things are looking up in this way!! ------------------------------------------------
