Tuesday, November 23, 2004 We've been threatened with being "dropped". So, went to the appointment to discuss why they want me to do this. My choices are to "suck it up" and test my blood 4x/day (even though he acknowledged that I don't have GD), or find someone else to see for a VBAC. Jeff and I have concluded from the conversation that his reasons were: his liability, and his pride (we should TRUST him implicitly). I no longer have any faith that I'd end up with a vaginal birth in his practice. He'd stated previously that he would offer his "recommendations" and would support us even if we didn't follow them. And today, when we told him we didn't plan to follow this recommendation, he told us that perhaps we should look for someone else, then. He gave us 24 hours to think it over. He said I need to do this because "I've been in this field for 25 years ... blah, blah, blah ... and if you don't compromise and do this, then maybe you should go elsewhere." Something to that effect. Nothing scientific (because, apparently obstetrical medicine is no longer a science, but an art that tells you after 25 years, there is nothing else to learn). I could find another OB. My chances of having a VBAC would probably be less, but who knows at this point. It is seeming more like a random chance with any, now. The 24-hour limit is for me to have time to "think it over" and let them know if we're going to do the testing or not. I figure if I tell them I won't do unnecessary testing based on their recommendation, I'll receive a letter in the mail next week stating that they will no longer be our provider. That is essentially what he said my options were -- do it, or leave. ------------------------------------------------
