Sith Happens
Sure, it had a punch, but does it have staying power? All fans aside, Star Wars Episode III has fallen to third place in the box office, behind Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Madagascar. This to me makes me think that although the film had a tremendous opening due to hype, promotion, and expectation, the film itself lacks something that makes it truly exceptional. Lucas said it would be "Titanic in space." Well, Titanic was number one in the box office for nearly a dozen weeks, and Star Wars Episode III is not. Average moviegoers are not lining up to see it two or three times, as they did for Titanic. As Spectacular as it might be, Revenge of the Sith does not seem to have found that pulse of American pop culture.
