Thursday, September 15, 2005 Definitely Not Reinventing Television Kristin and I were both disappointed in USA Network's Made In The USA , precisely because it lives up to its namesake: it's cookie-cutter programming. You see, we thought it was going to be something different, a reality show showcasing different product, say, 10 a week, and whittling them down to the best of the lot. No, they did all the whittling in the first episode, down to six. And for those six remaining teams, their ability to win will be based in part of the typical reality-shows contests that have become the soup de jour since Richard Hatch dropped his loincloth. I don't care if the contestants can successfully sell a banana to me. I care about their product. The show's judges have already proclaimed the winner: the Quadzipper. They said it themselves - "It's Post-It! big." Kristin saw its immediate ability to tranform baby sleep clothes into walking/crawling clothes in an instant and was already demanding when she could get it. It's already selling and it hasn't even hit the shelf! How can an instant waterfall possibly compare? ------------------------------------------------
