Wednesday, September 07, 2005 Should They Stay or Should They Go? Ray Nagin has ordered those who have refused to evacuate to be forcibly removed from their homes.. It seems he might be talking to thin air, because it appears no one is planning to do so. CNN reports that Lt. General Honore has stated that "the task of removing people against their will was a law enforcement job". NPR has quoted Louisiana law enforcement officials that have stated they will never forcibly remove homeowners, but will rely on couselors and persistent pressure to get them to leave. Despite Honore's statements, it does appear that some holdouts are being removed by military forces. The curator of the New Orleans Musuem of Art reported to NPR that he and his staff was required to vacate the museum by the National Guard, despite their request to remain until armed security arrived to secure the museum. ------------------------------------------------
