Can the Warriors Come Out and Play?
Back in high school, David Krueger and I decided one year to get each other film scores from less-than-a-list films. For David, I got the score to Lou Ferrigno's classic, Cage. David chose for the more the soundtrack to The Warriors, a nice little gritty tale about a street gang accused of killing a powerful gang leader and hunted by all the other gangs of New York City as they attempt to return to Coney Island. It's kind of like A Clockwork Orange, minus any intellectual thought, and supposing that al of the Droogs would go after each other tooth and nail. Plus, every gang has their own schtick, from roller skates to mime makeup and baseball bats (obvious reference to Orange), to hillbillies with suspenders to a group of bald white guys driving around in a school bus.Given the premise of the film, it should have been obvious that it was tailor made to be a video game. Heck even the movie is goal oriented, with lots of enemies and pit bosses between the Warriors and the final objective. And now, finally, it has become a game. Of course, however, the game producers are the creators of the Vice City series, so I expect the game will be a lot more bloody and gritty than the film was. Realistic? Yes. Fun for me to play? Not really.
I think I'll stick with Old School. After all, wasn't this essentially the same plot behind Bad Dudes?
