Halloween Is a Terrorist Act
booAt least, according to Hugo Chavez. While I might agree with Mr. Chavez that the U.S. domination of film and television does lead to a cultural diffusion around the world, I take exception to his claim that Halloween is endemic of U.S. culture, terrorism, putting fear into other nations, putting fear into their own people..

It might just be ignorance on my part, but I thought the backgrounds and customs of Halloween are pretty much similar to that of the Day of the Dead, a celbration that is endemic to his culture and is celbrated just one day after Halloween. Again, why can't anything that is geared towards children just remain innocent? Why must is become politicized?

I might listen to Chavez' assertions more if he did not come off as a demagogue. Any leader who believes Robert Mugabe's land reforms were a good idea and who imposes legislation that allows him to imprison journalists he accuses of libel for over three years is not a good arbiter of human rights and decency.
