Monday, March 20, 2006 How I Wish That There Were More Than 24 Hours in a Day Even though its twists and turns are dangerously coming close to the curve and going straight off the cliff of absurdity, I’ve yet to say that the writers of 24 need to hand over the keys. It’s just darn compelling, and you can’t help but watch, either to see if they pull off the stunt or end up a flaming wreck. This season has delivered the best line of of the series. Let’s face it – CTU is hardly the safest place to work . In the span of five seasons, within Los Angeles’ elite counter-terrorism headquaters, Jack’s wife has been murdered by a double agent, a militia has set off explosives that killed half the staff, several dozen people have died in the medical wing, Jack’s daughter was almost killed, a rogue secret service agent has attempted to kill Jack, and yet another assassin attempted to kill Jack. Finally, after asking his daughter back to meet with him this season, a terrorist releases deadly nerve gas throughout the killing, killing half the staff again. While berating himself for bringing his daughter into danger, Jack’s former fiancé consoles him by saying: “You can’t blame yourself, Jack. There’s no way you could have known CTU wasn’t secure.” Really? Maybe the past six years would have been a good clue. Or maybe the assassin that nearly killed him three hours earlier. Just a thought. ------------------------------------------------
