Parker’s Bilingual Dilemma
Parker saw the Princess Bride for the first time the other day. He was actually mesmerized by it, and when Inigo finally got his revenge, Parker began to run about the room proclaiming “Prepare to Die!”Kristin and I tried to get him to say the entire phrase instead, thinking this shortened version might be off-putting to some people. He steadfastly refused to even consider the possibility. Finally, I decided to break the statement into smaller pieces so he could learn it line by line.
“Parker,”” I said “repeat after me…Hello.”
“Hello.” He said.
“My name is…”
“My name is…”
“Inigo Montoya…”
Earnestly he looked up and said “But I don’t speak Spanish.”
